Edgewater Football Stats
Edgewater High School's Football Program carries with it a rich tradition of success and excellence. The program is year-round, with students training for months before the start of football season, and has a history of sending players to Division 1 programs and the NFL. Every year, 120+ students come out for Football, but only 65 will make the Varsity squad. The road to making this team is tough, but if you're willing to work hard and have the right mindset, you have a shot.
Whether you're on the Varsity, Junior Varsity (JV), or Freshman roster there's high expectations for athletes to work hard on and off the field. If you're looking to move up the roster, you WILL have chance to prove yourself. When your opportunity comes, take full advantage and impress your coaches.
Varsity
Honors are earned not given.
Being selected to the Edgewater Eagles Varsity roster is no easy task. Each player on this list must have shown tremendous work ethic in the weight room, film room, practice field, game field, and classroom. This team isn't just a collection of athletes; it works as one unit. Players must be willing to meet and exeed the expectations of all those who came before them and currently battle along side them. In order to play for the Edgewater Varsity football, each player must show an unwavering commitment to teamwork and hard work.
JV
If you happen to miss the cut of the initial roster, keep your head up. Making Edgewater's Varsity team as a freshman or sophomore is extremely rare. And most athletes will begin their career on the Freshman or JV teams. There are instances where underclassmen are listed on both JV and Varsity rosters. Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) allows athletes to play six quarters per week. This allows an athlete to play any combination of quarters during the 2 games each week (e.g., 4 qtrs of JV and 2 qtrs of Varsity).
Freshman
Edgewater's football program is competitive, and athletes' transition from youth football can be difficult. Simply put, the biggest difference is size and skill. This can make for a difficult learning curve for players who don't have the experience to compete at the next level. For this reason, when new athletes come to Edgewater, they are typically placed on the Freshman team. By doing so, our coaches can focus on solidifying their knowledge of the fundamentals while instilling Edgewater's culture into all of our new athletes.
